Job 28:15

It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.

Wisdom cannot be gotten for gold, and silver cannot be weighed out as its price, for its worth cannot be measured in money and exceeds all material wealth. It is a heavenly treasure, the treasure of the Gospel and the knowledge of Christ, whose value is above gold and silver and all earthly riches and with which the riches of the earth cannot compare. It is found in the fear of the Lord, while understanding is to depart from evil, and the study of Scripture and of the plan of salvation teaches this fear and gives a knowledge of divine truth worth more than gold and silver. It is not gained by searching the earth or by trying to penetrate the mysteries of God's being, but by humbly receiving what God has revealed and living in harmony with His will. It can be seen only by one born again, and when received by faith into the heart it changes the whole man and transforms the character, making the coarse refined and the selfish generous.

Wisdom Beyond Earthly Price

Wisdom cannot be gotten for gold, and silver cannot be weighed out as its price. No amount of gold or silver can pay for it, obtain it, or equal its worth. Its value exceeds all material wealth and cannot be measured in money. Heavenly wisdom is a heavenly treasure that no payment of gold or silver can obtain, and no material price can purchase. The riches of the earth cannot compare with it, for it is the treasure of eternal realities.

The price of this wisdom, which is the heavenly treasure of the Gospel and the knowledge of Christ, is above gold and silver and above all earthly riches. No gold can buy it and no silver can weigh out its price, and neither gold and crystal nor jewels of fine gold can equal it. Coral, pearls, and rubies cannot compare with it, and even the contents of the richest mines of earth cannot match it. Gold and silver cannot set the price of what is truly precious, as seen in the abundant supply of clear, pure water. Such water is a treasure more valuable than gold, silver, or precious stones.

How Wisdom Is Found

Wisdom is more valuable than precious stones, and its price cannot be paid in gold and silver. It is found in the fear of the Lord, while understanding is to depart from evil. Studying Scripture and receiving its instruction teach this fear of the Lord.

True wisdom is found by humbly receiving what God has revealed and living in harmony with His will. It comes by conforming the life to His will. It is not found by searching the earth. Nor is it found by trying to penetrate the mysteries of God's being.

The knowledge of divine truth and God's ways, gained by studying the Word of God and by understanding and contemplating the plan of salvation, is substantial knowledge and strength of intellect worth more than gold and silver. Such knowledge cannot be bought with wealth. It is lasting, it strengthens the mind, and it is essential for salvation. The solid, valuable knowledge and strength of intellect gained in a child's early years are therefore a priceless possession, worth more than gold or silver and impossible to purchase with them. Wisdom is more precious than gold and cannot be bought with wealth, and Solomon prized it above the gold of Ophir, yet lustful passions ultimately overcame him.

Faith Receives And Transforms

The priceless wisdom that no gold can buy and no silver can weigh out is discerned only by spiritual sight, and only the one born again can see it. When it is seen with the eye of faith, it fills the heart with a rejoicing too full to be hidden. That joy goes everywhere telling what the Lord has done.

This treasure was secured for perishing souls at the cost of Christ's own life, for without shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. Received by faith into the heart, it changes the whole man. Taken into the life, it transforms the character, making the coarse refined, the rough gentle, and the selfish generous, while the impure are cleansed in the blood of the Lamb.
