Job 30:26

When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.

The verse belongs to the debate between Job and his three friends concerning his afflictions. Within that debate it falls in Job's concluding answer to Bildad. It expresses Job's distress and anguish that the good and relief he looked for did not come, but evil came instead, and the light he waited for gave way to darkness. It portrays the suffering of a righteous person and does not mean his affliction proves God's displeasure; adversity can come to one whom God loves, and suffering endured in trust can serve God's glory and the sufferer's ultimate good.
