Job 41:30

Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.

Job 41:30 is part of God's description of leviathan in the closing chapters of Job, set among the beasts of the earth and sea. That leviathan is generally identified as the crocodile, including the crocodile found in the waters of the Nile. Larger types of this creature may have lived in Job's time.

The passage belongs to natural-history instruction giving the nature and features of God's creatures. The surrounding questions use leviathan to show Job how far God's power and knowledge exceed his own, making him see his smallness before God. As one of God's mighty, great creatures, the leviathan shows that nature displays God's creative power, just as small creatures, plants, and natural forces do.
