Joshua 12:11

The king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;

The verse is one entry in the roll of kings defeated and places taken in war before the land was divided, drawn up about five years after the crossing of the Jordan. It stands within the longer narrative of Joshua 11-21 that traces the dividing and settling of the Promised Land among the tribes. That surrounding narrative exposes Israel's lack of faith and slowness to possess what was given, yet it closes with the assurance that God performed all the good He had promised.
