Joshua 15:53

And Janum, and Beth-tappuah, and Aphekah,

Janum is named as one of the eleven mountain cities that fell by lot to the tribe of Judah. The listing stands in the part of Joshua dealing with the conquering of the Canaanites and the division of the land. More particularly it falls in Joshua 13-22, the distribution of the land among the tribes after the conquest of Canaan, a geographical record based on written documents in which property was accurately described, recording the history of the chosen people from their first occupation of Canaan as a nation. That same division and settling of the Promised Land among the tribes is found in Joshua 11-21, a portion that also shows Israel's lack of faith and slowness, yet closes with the assurance that God fulfilled every good thing He had promised.
