Joshua 20:2
Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses: Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:
God appointed cities of refuge for Israel as places of safety for those fleeing for their lives. The road leading to those cities was made clearly defined and easy to find, so that no fugitive would be left in doubt about the direction to take. Every obstacle to reaching shelter was removed, allowing the pursued to press forward without perplexity or hardship. That plain and open way to safety shows how distinctly willing obedience to God is marked as the road to happiness and life, while disobedience is marked as the path to misery and death.
