Joshua 4:10
For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over. For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.
The verse belongs to the account of Israel's preparation for and passage over the Jordan into the promised land, an experience whose lessons were to be remembered. The priests bearing the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the Lord commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua, while the people hasted and passed over to complete the crossing. Their remaining in the middle of the river while the commanded work was carried out held the crossing open until the people had finished passing over.
Christ and heavenly angels stood with the ark and the priests in the river until all Israel had crossed over. The twelve men took stones from the riverbed from the place where the priests had stood. They carried them to the west side to make a monument, so that coming generations could hear how God delivered Israel, know His power, and honor Him.
