Judges 10:18
And the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead. And the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
Judges 10:18 belongs to the recurring history of Israel turning away from God into backsliding. It marks the stage where that unfaithfulness had brought suffering under foreign oppression, in this case the threat from Ammon. It also belongs to the turning point where the people return to God and seek relief. In that setting the offer of leadership to whoever will begin the fight shows God's forgiveness issuing in a new deliverance for Israel.
