Leviticus 26:37
And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies. And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.
Leviticus 26 sets before God's people a clear contrast between the blessing that follows obedience and the punishment and withdrawal of divine favor that follows disobedience. The chapter is a solemn warning, and the condition described here belongs to the threatened judgments upon persistent wrongdoing. Israel's own history stands as proof that such warnings are not empty, but must be taken seriously and heeded. The record of their experience urges later generations not to trifle with divine counsel.
The warning calls God's people to look back over their past course honestly, without excuses or self-justification. Stubbornness of heart is to be acknowledged and repented of rather than defended. Responsibility is measured by light received, so that those granted greater knowledge are under greater obligation to obey. If disobedience is persisted in, the prosperity God gave may be taken away. Those who continue in that path place themselves where Satan can gain control over them.
