Leviticus 7:27

Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.

The command was given by Jesus speaking from the cloudy pillar through Moses to Israel as a perpetual statute for all generations and in all dwellings. It forbids every soul to eat any manner of blood, whether of fowl or of beast, and declares that whatever soul eats it shall be cut off from his people. Joined to the ban on blood is the ban on animal fat, so that neither blood nor fat is to be consumed. In practice this meant the blood was to be carefully drained from animals used for food.

Yet blood and fat are still eaten as a luxury, with meat served reeking with fat to suit perverted taste. The reason for the ban is bodily health, because the use of blood and fat makes a diseased current of blood in the human system. Disregard of this special direction brings a variety of difficulties and diseases upon human beings. Much of the disease afflicting the human family comes from subsisting upon the diseased flesh of dead animals.

Those who do what the Lord told them not to do suffer the result of their disobedience. God does not work a miracle to prevent the consequences of introducing into the system that which cannot make good flesh and blood. All who love and serve Christ therefore have the solemn duty to search the Scriptures and be doers of His word.
