Luke 4:37

And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.

The verse belongs to the account of Jesus teaching and healing in Capernaum, where His Sabbath work of comforting and healing the sick was extensive and news of His ministry spread widely. It comes as He retired from the synagogue while the people were still spell-bound with wonder and admiration at the casting out of the demon, and it leads at once into another equally wonderful miracle. He sought Peter's house for a little rest but found no rest, for Peter's wife's mother was sick with fever, and in sympathy He rebuked the disease so that it was at once removed, and she rose filled with joy and gratitude to minister with willing hands to the needs of Jesus and His disciples.

His fame spread throughout the surrounding region and country round about after He taught with power and authority and by divine power commanded unclean spirits and demons to leave their victims. Specifically it spread after He delivered the man possessed by an evil spirit. The spreading fame resulted from His extensive Sabbath work of comforting and healing the sick. The Sabbath was His busiest day for healing because on that day He could best reach those who labored during the week.

The deliverance displayed His power to free Satan's captives and revealed God's character, a work that Satan resisted through the forces of darkness. Wherever He went He worked as a medical missionary, speaking words of comfort and love, and a stream of healing power flowed from Him by which the sick were made whole. He healed men and women with unhesitating willingness and hearty joyfulness, glad to restore suffering ones to health.
