Nahum 3:13

Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.

Nahum's prophecy in this verse concerns Nineveh, the wicked capital of Assyria. It pictures the inhabitants as rendered powerless like women before their foes. The gates of the land are set wide open to invasion, and fire devours the bars that should have secured them, portraying the city's defeat and destruction.

The verse belongs to God's prediction that Nineveh would fall to its enemies. That prediction was fulfilled when Nineveh fell to the combined power of Media, Egypt, and Babylonia. In this setting Nineveh is presented as a type of later wicked cities.
