Nehemiah 10:16

Adonijah, Bigvai, Adin,

The verse consists only of three personal names, Adonijah, Bigvai, and Adin. Those named belong to the leaders of the remnant that returned to Jerusalem after the seventy-year captivity. They were among those who entered into the covenant, and their record contributes to the account of the condition and covenant of that remnant. The verse belongs to the lists in Ezra and Nehemiah that include the leading ones who went up from the captivity and those who had married strange wives.

It belongs to the Bible narrative of Babylonian life in the days of Ezra and Nehemiah. That narrative is confirmed by discoveries in ancient lands adjoining Israel that had dealings with Israel. Israel as a whole did not remain faithful. The verse is not an expressed promise and cannot be counted among the exceeding great and precious promises to God's people, showing that not every verse of the Bible is a distinct promise.
