Psalms 101:7

He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.

The verse is a resolve to bar deceit from the household by refusing lodging to anyone who practices fraud and by refusing a continuing place before one's eyes to anyone who speaks falsehood. It is a vow to watch over the influences of the home in this way. That vow belongs to parents in their duty to guard the influences surrounding their children, and to all upon whom rests responsibility for guarding the home.

On God's level the same exclusion governs His own house, for those who obey Him are invited to dwell with Him as His servants. Deceit and lying are incompatible with dwelling in His household and remaining in His presence, so all who practice deceit and falsehood are shut out and are not fit to remain there as servants. Deceivers and liars cannot be His helpers or do His work, because righteousness and truth are the dwelling place of His throne and His government reaches to every work.

Those who serve Him must therefore be trustworthy and faithful, and faithful and truthful in their conduct. The trustworthiness required is in conduct, not in words merely. In choosing counselors and helpers, only the good and faithful, the pure and righteous who understand His will and walk in a perfect way may dwell with Him and serve Him, namely those who refuse to uphold unrighteousness or selfishness in themselves or in others and who will not oppress others.
