He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and brake the trees of their coasts.
The striking of the vines and the fig trees and the breaking of the trees throughout the coasts was part of God's judgments in Egypt during the plagues, accomplished by the signs sent through Moses and Aaron. That destruction belongs to the history of Israel under the cloud and through the sea, when all were baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea. It belongs to the time when all ate the same spiritual food and all drank the same spiritual drink from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.
Yet with many of them God was not well pleased, and they were overthrown in the wilderness despite those great privileges. That history contains lessons of warning that the people of God in these last days especially need to study. For that reason Psalms 105 and 106 should be read at least once every week.
