For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.
The Lord chose Zion and desired it for His habitation. Because of that choice Jerusalem was honored by God above all the earth. There He revealed His presence above the mercy seat, received worship and prayer, and gave messages through His prophets. There worship and sacrifice pointed to the Messiah, and the way between earth and heaven was represented. Zion's standing as God's chosen dwelling was conditional on Israel's faithfulness, and had the nation remained loyal to Heaven, Jerusalem would have stood forever as God's elect.
