Psalms 14:6

Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge.

The wicked put to shame and bring to nothing the counsel of the poor precisely because the poor make the Lord their refuge, and it is that refuge in the Lord which the wicked oppose. Their contempt is not merely aimed at human plans but at dependence on God, since the poor person's counsel is to trust in Him. The Lord Himself is that poor person's refuge, a present shelter that vindicates the course the wicked despise. God is present in the midst of the righteous, so those who shame this God-centered counsel stand opposed to His presence and have cause for fear.
