Psalms 144:14
That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets. That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets.
The prayer is for oxen strong to work and for streets free from invasion, departure, and outcry. This belongs within the wider plea in verses 12-15 for thriving family, abundant harvest, flourishing livestock, and orderly public life, which men count as happiness. Such secure prosperity marks the people whose happiness lies in having the Lord for their God.
No breaking in and no going out will be fully realized in the peace and security of the New Earth. There no wicked neighbors or thieves will break in, and no distress at home will prevent gathering for Sabbath worship. Yet to seek this temporal well-being above spiritual things is carnal, arising from a vanity described as the speech of strange children.
