Psalms 18:5

The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.

Psalm 18:5 portrays the anguish and mortal peril that surrounded Christ in His suffering and death. The sorrows of the grave and of death closed in around Him, while the traps of death hemmed Him in on every side. This encirclement took place when He was rejected and crucified. The words that follow the verse show that in that distress He called upon God, and God heard Him.
