Psalms 22:22

I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

The verse is a resolve to praise God publicly and together in the midst of the congregation of gathered believers. It is also a resolve to declare God's name to one's brethren and fellow believers. The one who so praises God in the congregation is Christ.

That praise is a response to God hearing the afflicted person's cry, for He has not despised or rejected the afflicted nor hidden His face and turned away. Its context calls all who fear God to glorify Him. Its context includes the speaker's promise to pay his vows before those who fear God.

Declaring God's name and praising Him in the congregation is a privilege and an example of praising God more fully. Christ's praise is a model for lifting God up in songs, with His voice as the keynote of the universe.

The verse calls each person to look to God to guide and give understanding of individual duty, rather than relying on another erring person as guide or letting another stand between oneself and the duty God has shown. The verse gives confidence and hope that after being restored to health the speaker will speak God's praise publicly in the congregation of the saints.
