David Lifts His Hands at Sunrise Among Olive Treesby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 25:7

Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.

The verse is a sinner's prayer asking God not to hold the sins of youth and transgressions against him, but to remember him according to divine mercy and goodness for goodness' sake. Its immediate context affirms that God is good and upright, teaches sinners the right way, and guides the meek in judgment and teaches them His way. The prayer belongs to a wider plea to God as salvation to show His ways, teach His paths, and lead in truth while waiting on Him all the day, trusting His tender mercies and lovingkindnesses of old. All His paths are mercy and truth to those who keep His covenant and testimonies.

When temptation brings despair, the verse offers hope by grounding the appeal in God's character rather than human merit. The verse requires truth to be received and given in that same spirit of mercy, goodness, meekness and truth, taught as Christ taught in a courteous and pleasant way that shows its desirability so its rich fruit is accepted. It is not to be presented in a fierce, harsh, forbidding and condemnatory way that wields truth like a scourge and mars its influence and turns people from it.

In particular, those who bear the vessels of the Lord and offer the beautiful fruit of God's rich treasures of truth must themselves be clean, converted and blessed in believing it. Their hearts must be filled with converting grace, so their words and manner draw people to accept it rather than turning them from it.
