Psalms 32:11

Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

Be glad in the Lord, rejoice, shout for joy, and praise Him — this is commanded to the righteous, to all who are upright in heart, and to the saints. This joy is grounded in God Himself and in trusting Him, whose mercy surrounds His people, and not in human judgment or in accusation of others; it is praise responding to His gracious dealings. It follows confessing sin, receiving forgiveness, trusting God, and being surrounded by His mercy and deliverance.

The gladness and loud joy belong to those made right and true in heart by keeping their eyes fixed on the Saviour and serving the Lord with uprightness. It is thanksgiving spoken from blessed experience of the value of His law, joined to finding His words sweeter than honey and desiring Him above all in heaven and earth. This joy can become the experience of anyone now who puts away everything marring character and makes an unreserved surrender to God.

The verse teaches the true higher education the Lord regards as safe, learned by studying the Word to rightly understand the difference from the so-called higher education of the world. It encourages the joyful to proclaim to others the exalted privilege of expressing the divine image in thought and deed. It gives no encouragement for self to manifest itself large, but shows that the Lord will impress, refine, and purify the heart, mind, and life of those who wish to understand His way.

Worshipers should bring this gladness and praise to religious gatherings, where God and the angels are present and work with true worshipers. Fellowship with one another should make them glad, and their hope should fill their hearts with love for God.
