Psalms 36:10

O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.

O continue thy lovingkindness to those who know God and thy righteousness to those upright in heart is a prayer for God to keep showing His unfailing love and right-doing without interruption. It belongs with the assurance of Christ's watchful care over those who trust in Him and seek refuge under His care. It expresses His longing to gather and protect all who know God and are upright in heart by continuing that lovingkindness and righteousness to them.

It is the prayer He longed to hear from Israel, carrying assurance of protection to all who will come to Him poor and defenseless and dependent. All who so come He accepts and covers under the shadow of His wings. As a hen spreads her wings over her brood, so He warns of peril and gives warmth and safety and defends them with His own life.

Joined to its setting it shows full safety and supply for those who trust under His mediatorial wings. That setting is mercy in the heavens, faithfulness reaching to the clouds, righteousness like the great mountains, and judgments a great deep. It is preservation of man and beast, excellent lovingkindness, and the trust of men under His wings. It is abundant satisfaction with the fatness of His house, drink from the river of His pleasures, the fountain of life with Him, and light in His light.
