An Enemy Soldier Flees in Panic at Dawnby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 53:5

There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.

The verse declares that God Himself sends overwhelming dread upon those who mass against His people even when no ordinary reason for panic exists. He breaks up the encampment of the enemy, scattering their strength and reducing their assault to nothing. He covers them with shame and disgrace because He has rejected and despised them. This is His settled way of defending an oppressed people and overthrowing their oppressors.

Its fulfillment was seen when the papal crusading armies came against the Hussite defenders and were seized with sudden supernatural terror. Without visible cause they broke and fled, though they had gathered in great force for invasion. Their panic and flight exposed their shame and proved that God can strike an invading host with fear and scatter it.
