Psalms 59:16
But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.
Psalm 59 is one of David's songs of grateful thanks for personal deliverance from his enemies and from trials. It is typical of Christ, the greater David.
The verse declares God to have been a defense and refuge and protection in the day and time of trouble, and makes his strength the source of the song. Trust in God as protector is expressed by calling him a Rock, fortress, strong tower, and defense in the day of trouble. God's power and strength and his mercy and loving-kindness give cause for joyful singing of praise.
The morning is a fitting time to sing aloud of God's mercy, strength, and loving-kindness as part of beginning the day with prayer and praise to God. Such singing is to be voiced in the morning and sustained through every part of life, remaining fitting amid trouble, darkness, and strife because God hears and is a refuge whose goodness can also encourage others.
In the plan of redemption, the verse gives assurance that God pledges his power on behalf of those who trust him. Its words serve as a resolution to praise God in response to his protection.
