Psalms 66:10

For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.

The psalm that contains this text teaches the right use of speech, showing how the tongue is to be employed in declaring what God has done for the soul. It calls for crying out to Him and exalting Him, bringing forth good things from the treasure of a heart that enjoys the love of God. This right employment renders to God the fruit of the lips in words of praise and thanksgiving.

God proves and tests His people in the same way that silver is tested. Those who are thus tried by Him will come forth as gold. In that proving He guards His chosen ones, so that satanic powers cannot overcome and destroy them.
