Psalms 69:14
Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.
The mire and deep waters are cruel oppression rising to overflow and drag down into sinking. They come as a pressing tide of jealousy and suspicion and false accusation and unkind treatment from others. That weight bears down until strength is crushed beneath it. The prayer is the cry not to be left to sink but to be delivered from sinking. Deliverance is being lifted out of those waters and upheld so as not to sink under them.
