Psalms 76:9

When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.

When God arose to judgment, He arose against the Assyrians to deliver Jerusalem from Sennacherib and to save all the meek of the earth. Through the angel of the Lord He struck down 185,000 of the Assyrian host in a single night, cutting off every mighty man of valor and every leader and captain. At His arising the earth feared and became still. Sennacherib returned with shame of face to his own land, where he was afterward assassinated, and the honor of Jehovah was vindicated before the surrounding nations.

The meek whom He thus saved were Hezekiah and the people of Judah in Jerusalem. In their great extremity they mingled earnest entreaties for deliverance with confession of sin and tears, and trusted wholly in God's power to save. When He delivered them, Jerusalem was filled with holy joy, and the saved people praised Him with solemn songs in the temple courts.
