Psalms 86:14

O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them.

The verse is David's cry to God for rescue from arrogant foes who have risen up against him. Those foes gather together as companies of ruthless men bent on taking his life, and they act without keeping God before their eyes. His plea rests on the ground of his own holiness set apart to God. Such an appeal becomes a sign of favor and good when it can be offered humbly and truthfully in God's presence.
