Psalms 89:16

In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.

God's people rejoice in the divine name continually all the day, and they are lifted up and exalted through divine righteousness. Their joy and exaltation are not occasional but abiding, extending through every part of the day. To rejoice in the name is to rejoice in what God is, and to be exalted in righteousness is to be raised by what God does.

This gladness and lifting up rest on God's own character and power rather than on human strength. They are blessings bestowed under God's righteous sovereignty, so that the ground of confidence is His rightful rule and not any merit or might in themselves. The promises given to David's house in this psalm reach beyond the immediate reign to the eternal ages. They find their complete fulfillment in Christ, in whom the rejoicing in the name and the exaltation in righteousness are fully realized.
