And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.
The call is for all Gentiles and all peoples to praise and honor the Lord. This praise is not confined to Israel but embraces the nations, with Gentiles rejoicing together with His people and sharing with Jews in one people and worship. In the closing days converted Jews are being joined to His chosen followers, the Israel of God, and His blessing rests richly upon them as they take their place in this rejoicing. The summons to praise stands together with the promise that the root of Jesse shall reign over the Gentiles and that in Him they shall trust.
In worship gratitude and thanksgiving are to be cherished and He is to be praised with heart and voice. Such praise calls for sanctified powers, for only when brain power and the talent of speech are sanctified is a person fitted for service.
To praise Him is to have speech sanctified and cleansed from faultfinding, criticism, contention and retaliation, and to use it for kind, tender, encouraging words that refresh and bless the heart. It is to guard the door of the lips, to speak no provoking word, to turn a deaf ear to criticism of others, and to meet harsh speech and provocation with silence. It is to quarrel only with self, to confess sins before God for forgiveness, and to keep the eye fixed on Jesus, who never finds fault except to lay open perils from which He would deliver, for a quarrelsome disposition will never enter the city of God.
