Song of Solomon 1:9

I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh’s chariots.

The verse belongs to a poetic picture and parable and Oriental love poem portraying Christ and His church. Its warm, figurative Eastern language, including the likening to horses in Pharaoh's chariots, belongs to the time when it was written and is not to be objected to on modern grounds. Solomon's experiences in the poem may serve as a type of Christ and the church.

In its immediate setting in verses 8-11, the verse is part of Christ's reply to the church, with Christ addressing the church as His love. It shows Christ's wonderful love and the church's answering love, which can lack faithfulness and constancy.
