Song of Solomon 2:15

Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.

The verse teaches that small faults spoil what is good and should bear fruit, just as little foxes spoil vines with tender grapes. The little foxes are seemingly minor failures such as little neglects, deficiencies, dishonesties, misstatements, and departures from principle, departures from Christ's principles. These faults blind the soul and separate it from God. When left unchecked, these seemingly minor faults grow.

Through small daily choices they shape habitual thoughts and character, and character building continues throughout life with each day adding something good or bad. Neglecting them leaves a person unprepared to meet severe tests and greater trials with grace. In a professed messenger of God they become stumbling blocks that ruin his influence and dishonor Christ, because others may follow his example and imitate the evil.

Therefore these small matters must be guarded. They must be brought under Christ's control. The verse warns against overlooking small opportunities while aspiring to great deeds.
