Song of Solomon 2:16

My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.

The verse portrays a tender and sacred union of mutual belonging between Christ and His redeemed people, the settled assurance that He is theirs and they are His. That belonging will come to its fullest joy at His second coming, when He raises the just from death and they behold Him enthroned in glory with their greatest delight in being in His presence. Seeing in His glorified body the marks of Calvary, they will joyfully exclaim that belonging and hail Him as their beloved, surpassing ten thousand and altogether winsome. Even now that same assurance is known by daily experience of Him as sole dependence and hope, following surrender, unity, forgiveness and trust in His intercession, and it sustains the believer amid pain in the promise of God.

Tender Union with Christ

The bride's words portray a tender and sacred union between Christ and His redeemed people, in which they belong to Him and He belongs to them.
The verse expresses mutual belonging and settled assurance that Christ is theirs and they are His.
That belonging is joyful, with the redeemed delighting to be with Him and to call Him their beloved, and with the assurance resting on surrender to God's will, unity and love among believers, forgiveness, and trust that Christ presents their requests to God through His righteousness.
The same belonging finds its full joy in His presence when the just are raised from their graves to see Him enthroned in glory, when they see in His glorified body the marks of Calvary and exclaim that He is theirs and they are His, acclaiming Him as chief among ten thousand and altogether lovely, supremely beautiful and beloved.

Joy at Second Coming

At His second coming He raises the just from their graves, rescuing them from death. They will see Him enthroned in glory. In His glorified body they will see the marks of Calvary.

Their greatest joy and delight will be being in His presence. Rescued from death and brought to the resurrection, they will delight in Him and find their fullest happiness with Him. In His presence they will joyfully exclaim that He is theirs and they are His.

They will acclaim Him as chief among ten thousand and altogether lovely. He is their beloved, supremely beautiful.

Assurance for Daily Life

The confidence that the beloved belongs to the believer and the believer belongs to him follows surrender to God's will. It follows unity and love among believers. It follows forgiveness, and trust that Christ presents requests to God through His own righteousness.

This belonging is known by daily experience, with Christ as the believer's sole dependence and hope. He brings joy and comfort and happiness to the one who is His and whose He is. Knowing Him belongs to spiritual and eternal life, and must come before earthly pursuits. This assurance of mutual belonging sustains the believer amid pain and supports confidence in God's sure promise.
