Song of Solomon 3:3

The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

The asking of whether the beloved has been seen voices longing to see the one the soul loves. That longing is longing to see Jesus, and the question becomes a cry for sight of him. The cry is raised amid the announcement of the great day of God's wrath. It is directed to Jesus as he comes with the angels. It is spoken in fear of the approaching day of wrath and in doubt about being worthy to stand. That fear and doubt are answered by the assurance that Jesus has redeemed the speaker by his blood.
