Song of Solomon 6:1

Whither is thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among women? whither is thy beloved turned aside? that we may seek him with thee.

Song of Solomon 6:1 belongs to a dialogue carried on among different speakers in an Oriental love poem that employs the figurative language of the East. The book is understood by many biblical scholars as a parable or poetic picture of Christ and His church that sets forth Christ's love for His church. The love between Christ and His church pictured there is sometimes marked by unfaithfulness and lack of constancy. Within that picture the inquiry about where the beloved has gone and turned aside, together with the offer to join in seeking him, expresses the search for the beloved.
