Song of Solomon 8:2

I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother’s house, who would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

The verse belongs to one of the one thousand and five songs or poems written by Solomon, formed as a dialogue carried on between various parties. It is couched in vivid, warm, figurative Oriental love-poem imagery that belongs to the time when it was written. It is a poetical picture and parable of Christ and His church, presenting His wonderful love and her love in response to Him. That responsive love is often wanting in faithfulness and constancy.

Experiences of Solomon in the poem may serve as types of Christ and the church. Seen in its original setting, its imagery gives no ground for the objection now made against some of its imagery. It is to be read alone with God while keeping in mind the thought of Christ and His church.
