Zechariah 8:4
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.
Restored Jerusalem is to be a place of safety and peace where life can grow old in the open. Very aged men and women will yet dwell in its streets, living their daily life there without fear. Each will lean on a staff held in the hand because of the weight of many years. This picture belongs to the Lord's declared promise to return to Zion and to bless Jerusalem. It expresses His purpose for His people, a purpose Israel failed to fulfill.
