Oppressed Nations and the Spread of Religious Liberty

Cuba, Madagascar, Armenia, Abyssinia, are nations which deserve the sympathy of all lovers of liberty. Were they being subjugated by England, we would not feel so badly, unless her opium curse, or some other equally bad, followed her; for English rule nearly always means comparative, at least, religious liberty. But with Spain, or France, or Turkey, or Italy, we have but little to hope. Of all, considering their light, we believe that Turkey is about as liberal as any; for she will not trouble those religionists who do not intermeddle with political matters. And yet, somehow, we believe God will overrule all this strife, that his word and warning may be more fully proclaimed in these lands before Christ comes.

Church and State: Religious Liberty Library No. 36

No. 36 of the Religious Liberty Library is entitled “Church and State.” It is a discussion of the late encyclical of Pope Leo XIII., by the Rev. Geo. B. Kulp, pastor of the M. E. Church in Battle Creek, Mich. It is a forceful argument, and clearly shows the imminent danger this country is now in, and what we might expect should Rome obtain the ascendency. It is worthy a wide circulation. Price, 2 cents. Address, Pacific Press, Oakland, Cal., 18 West Fifth Street, Kansas City, Mo., 39 Bond Street, New York; or International Tract Society, Battle Creek, Mich., or any of our state tract societies.

TO OUR SEVENTH-DAY READERS.

Many have become converted to present truth by reading a book, tract, or paper; or their attention was first called to the present truth in that way; or they were largely influenced to accept the Sabbath and kindred truths by some publication. Elder A. O. Tait, of Battle Creek, Mich., would like to obtain the names of all such, with the name of the particular publication which was influential in leading them to the light. If any of the above designated class, who have not already written, will drop a postal to Mr. Tait with the information desired, as stated above, they will greatly oblige, and if they have not yet seen the two tracts “America’s Crisis” and “The New Testament Sabbath,” and will so state, Mr. Tait will send them sample copies. Only those who have accepted of the views represented by this paper should reply to this note. Respond promptly.
