Notes on Healdsburg Meeting and Pamphlet Correction

A GOOD report comes from the Sabbath-school reunion in Healdsburg; but we have not learned particulars sufficient to warrant a notice. We shall be pleased to receive them for our next paper.
A FRIEND has called our attention to an error in our little pamphlet, “Truth Found,” page 29, where Charles XII. is given for Louis XII. We will look the matter up and have the plate corrected.
ELD. C. L. BOYD called on us on his way to the Healdsburg meeting. We are glad he came, and believe it will be a benefit to the N. P. Conference. Such meetings are productive of great good to the cause.
WHO sent our paper to A. T. Wolf, Milbank, Dakota? He was murdered Nov. 6, and the authorities are inquiring for his relatives. Information may be sent to A. H. Nash, Dep. Sheriff, Milbank, Grant Co., Dakota.
IF all the reasons given by “professors,” “scientists,” and “astronomers,” for the redness of the horizon, mornings and evenings, were true, we should only wonder that the sky was not red all the day long. Their conflicting theories prove that they guess at it, just as common folks do. In Ceylon and some parts of India and South America, the sun looked green for four days. It occasioned much concern.
WE acknowledge the receipt of an invitation and ticket to visit the Warner Observatory, Rochester, N. Y., which we shall certainly use if we ever have the privilege of visiting that city again. We have no personal knowledge of the matter, but understand that Warner Observatory is one of the best in the land.
By the way, Oakland has just fitted up an Observatory on the block bounded by streets 10 and 11, Jefferson and Grove. We will learn more of it.
THE reporter for the San Jose Mercury, giving an account of the last hours of Jewell, who was hanged November 30, for the crime of a most brutal murder, and who was “baptized” by Dr. Bentley, Methodist, shortly before his execution, said the criminal spoke calmly and cheerfully of his future.
“‘I care for nothing in this world, now,’ he said, with apparent satisfaction. ‘When I was a heathen, I considered nearly all people Christians. But now that I am a Christian, I consider them nearly all heathens.’”
It is our opinion that the surest way to keep such a man from falling from grace was to hang him! Neither his speech nor demeanor indicated that his Christianity would have stood the ordeal of a release from the death penalty.

Quarterly Meeting in Oakland.

THIS church was especially favored at the last quarterly meeting, which was held Dec. 29. Sister White spoke in the forenoon. At the ordinance meeting in the afternoon, about one hundred and twenty-five were present; the largest number that has ever been in attendance in this place. There is increasing interest in the truth in Oakland. We have interested hearers every Sabbath, and some have lately embraced the faith, and are keeping the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. We hope to have a series of sermons delivered in Oakland this winter or the coming spring.
