European Press.

SOME two years since we made a call for $10,000 to establish the press in Europe. The friends of the cause have responded nobly. The sum is nearly made up. This amount is to be used for no other purpose but is to be appropriated to the purchase of a complete printing establishment.
W. C. White and his wife have fully decided to go to Europe to oversee this work. This decision is in harmony with the mind of the recent General Conference. Probably no man among us is so well qualified for this work as W. C. White. He did design to study the French and German languages, which is very desirable for any one visiting Europe. But in this he makes a great sacrifice. He has left the Battle Creek College and has gone into the Review Office to master the trade, so as to be able when landing in Europe to purchase the best presses, put them in running order, and run them himself until he can educate others to fill the position.
We copy the following statement made in the Signs nearly two years since:—
"The want of a press to be owned and controlled by S. D. Adventists in Switzerland, on which tracts in many languages may be printed and scattered by thousands through the different countries of Europe, seems to be daily increasing; and we are glad that the prospect is, that such a press will soon be running."
We now urge that others also who would esteem it a privilege to own each one hundred dollars in the European press come forward immediately and make up the complete sum of $10,000. The money can be forwarded to Review and Herald, Battle Creek, Mich. JAMES WHITE.

European Mission.

Mrs. White and the writer have made appeals to the brethren and sisters for means to sustain our worthy missionaries in Europe. As we expected, our faithful brethren are responding nobly. One church in Iowa has already pledged one thousand dollars. One circular has been returned with nearly twenty-five hundred dollars pledged.
We confidently expect that this sum will be raised to $10,000 before the close of the current year. This can be done and our brethren at the same time will not sacrifice a tithe that those dear brethren have who have left their native lands and gone to dark Europe to preach to hearts as hard as steel. God is blessing their efforts and already they are finding willing souls, not a few, who are embracing the last message. We earnestly exhort all to take a part in this good work.
The following are the names of the One Hundred Dollar men:—

Meetings at Oakland.

It has been our privilege to again visit Oakland during the annual meeting of the Pacific S. D. A. Publishing Association, and although we have done but little we have been cheered by meeting the brethren and taking some part with them. On the Sabbath, 6th inst., we took part in the ordination services of our dear Brother M. C. Israel to the work of the gospel ministry. Appropriate remarks were made on the occasion by Elder Loughborough, ordination prayer by the writer, charge by Elder Loughborough. It was an occasion of great solemnity.
In the evening of the same day it was our privilege to unite with Elder Loughborough in the ordinances of the Lord’s house, in which the Oakland church now much increased in numbers took part. God has recently been blessing this people greatly and there have been valuable accessions to the church. May grace, mercy and the love of God abide with us till Jesus comes. J. W.
