Not Moses’ Spirit

Not Moses’ Spirit.— It seems too bad that a writer like Newman Hall, D.D., should take the appearance of Moses on the Mount of Transfiguration as the evidence that the dead live, and this was the appearance of the soul of Moses. So Dr. Hall tells us in The Christian Work. Why can he not see that that transfiguration scene was the miniature representation of Christ’s second coming? See 2 Peter 1:16–18. At Christ’s coming there will be two classes: those translated without seeing death (represented by Elijah), and those raised from the dead (represented by Moses). That Moses was raised from the dead is plainly inferred in Jude 9. A comparison of Scripture passages would sometimes save us from erroneous conclusions.

Patriotism

Patriotism.—The characteristic commonly called patriotism gets the following thrust from the New York Observer:—
“Is every other American a born office-seeker? We are almost ready to think so when we read that over four hundred applications for appointments as general officers have been filed in Washington, while twenty thousand applications have been made for staff appointments. A military journal suggests that the latter be formed into an Army Corps, utilizing the services of most of these patriots as non-commissioned officers and enlisted men. It is to be feared that such a procedure would hardly suit the views of many of these ‘volunteers’—for specially honorable service.”
