Western Canadian Conference Reports Progress

SENDING a notice of their coming union conference meeting, Elder H. S. Shaw, president of the Western Canadian Union Conference, says: "We are plodding along in the same old way up here in this snow land. We have much to be thankful for, and we are thankful. The Lord has blessed the work in our field this year. Each department of the work shows a decided gain over the previous years since the work was started here. We appreciate the good help of our brethren who labor to make our periodicals what they are, and these publications are doing a great work in the field."

Missionaries Journey to Pitcairn

AFTER a long wait on the island of Tahiti, Brother and Sister Adams, of Australia, left on the "Hamstadt" for lone Pitcairn. When thirty-six hours from Pitcairn, they wrote they had had stormy weather, but it was becoming calm, so they expected a successful landing, which cannot be effected during storms, for Pitcairn has no harbor. This letter, written back to Australia, was posted from Chile, so it is taken for granted they did land safely. Let us remember Pitcairn in our prayers, that the Lord may greatly bless these lone dwellers in the sea, and add his blessing also to the work of Brother and Sister Adams.

A Sabbath Keeper in Peru

IN Peru a man was recently found who for eleven years had been a Sabbath keeper. Because of the scarcity of laborers, during this whole period after his baptism into the message, no one visited him. To him there seemed nothing "to indicate that the work would ever be finished, and the flickering light in his heart went out. Now we are asking for a worker for that section of the country. The door was open twenty years ago." Thus writes Brother Maxwell in his plea for help.

Club Subscriptions Must Share One Address

WE call attention to the restriction made in our clubbing rates requiring all papers of a club to be sent to one address. Separate addresses require the regular subscription prices. All papers taken in a club, at club prices, must be sent to one address. Let all remember this when ordering, for separate-address subscriptions cannot be accepted at club rates.

The Missions Campaign

CONFERENCE                               DATE OF REACHING GOAL
Maritime                                     . November 14 Utah                                       . November 25 Mississippi                               . December 2 West Virginia                           . December 22
All will be glad to see West Virginia added to our roll of honor. This is good. The telegram came Monday evening of last week. This means that 172 members have gathered in their proportion ($264.88) and more, which is as large a task as for a conference of 2,000 members to harvest $3,808. Four conferences at least have said by deeds that $100,000 for missions is a possibility during our 1913 Ingathering.
The president of the New York Conference, Elder W. H. Holden, writes that the church at Syracuse has realized its aim — $100 for missions.
A young sister in Michigan was greatly encouraged by receiving a letter from a person in Panama to whom she had sent a paper; the letter stated that he had not had time as yet to read all the paper, but had found $10 worth so far, for which amount a check was enclosed.
Over three fifths of a million of these mission-filled papers have been printed and sent out. This seed of the kingdom has fallen into thousands of homes. No one will ever know in this life the great good that has been accomplished by this united service on the part of God's people. Let us pray that many souls may be won to Christ as a result of this noble endeavor. As soon as possible, the total amount raised throughout the whole field will be given. T. E. BOWEN.

Ministerial Reading Course

The General Conference Committee, realizing the growing desire for improvement on the part of the ministry, decided at its autumn council to conduct a Ministerial Reading Course.
The course for 1914 begins with January. Several leading men in the ministry have read the first book in the course, entitled "Preparing to Preach," by Dr. David R. Breed, and speak highly of it. The book is well arranged, suggestive, practical, and quite comprehensive.
The Ministerial Reading Course is open to ministers, Bible workers, and others having evangelistic work in view. In the Educational department, in this issue, we are publishing plans of operation of the Ministerial Reading Course. Those desiring to avail themselves of the benefits of this course of reading should register their names with the Educational Department of the General Conference, Takoma Park, Washington, D. C.

Present Truth Holiday Number

THE Present Truth (London) for December 18 is a beautiful holiday number, with colored covers. The editor, Elder W. T. Bartlett, has an article on "Armageddon" and another on "Signs of the Coming Day." Elder W. J. Fitzgerald has an article on "The Home of the Saved and the Kingdom of Heaven." H. F. De'Ath writes on "The Two Advents." Other important subjects are considered by different writers. We hope this special holiday number may have the circulation in the British Isles which its value justly merits.
