Beautiful Books that Sell

HERE is no class of books obtainable that so beautifully opens the word of God to children and young people as some here shown. Others touch upon health, kindness to animals, and special phases of Bible study. Christian people everywhere are pleased with them. The demand for them is growing. Hundreds without previous book-selling experience have with the handy prospectus here described, gone out and done most successful work with these books. They have brought real help to homes, and have received rich blessings in so doing. Hundreds more could do excellent work during these favorable summer months. A new booklet which explains clearly every feature of this work has just been issued. It gives canvasses, special selling points, and tells exactly how to take hold of it. The illustrations and description here given are taken from this new "Home Workers' Booklet." Ask for a copy of your Tract Society, or of the Pacific Press Publishing Association, if you do not know where your depository is located.

The Home Workers' Prospectus

Into two clasp rings inside a stiff cloth-covered binder are slipped the samples of all the books. The sample shows the cover and sixteen selected pages from the book. Samples of books in foreign languages contain also the corresponding foreign pages. A brief description of the complete book that may be used as a canvass accompanies each sample.
With this "loose-leaf" plan, as many or as few of the samples as desired may be carried. Some do their best work with from four to six books at a time. Others desire more. When full, the prospectus weighs 40 ounces. It is 8¾ inches long by 7¼ inches wide, and one inch thick. For $1.00 you get the prospectus complete with all the samples. This price is post-paid.

The Fundamentals of Geology

This new book by Professor George McCready Price, B.A., gives a scientific exposition of the various geological teachings of the present day. The "succession-of-life" theory, the "doctrine of uniformity," and other theories are here investigated in the light of science. "It is," says the author, "an honest effort to study the foundation facts of geology from the inductive standpoint. . . . It is, so far as he knows, the only work of modern times in the English or any other language which does not treat the science of geology more or less as a cosmogony."
The work is thoroly up to date, including photographs taken since the recent geological discoveries in great sections of Montana and Alberta.
The style is clear and forceful, and the book is in language that makes the study interesting to the average reader. Thirty-six illustrations add greatly to its value.
More than 250 pages, bound in durable cloth. Price, post-paid, $1.25

A $20 Million Battleship

It is reported that the Navy Board will ask Congress to appropriate $20,000,000 for a single battle-ship that is to displace 40,000 tons. The largest battle-ship so far has about 30,000 tons displacement. This proposed increase from 30,000 to 40,000 tons would have made one of the largest battle-ships afloat fifteen years ago. The greatest speed of the supposedly large battle-ships of fifteen years ago was only about 17 to 18 knots an hour, and they cost only about $4,000,000. This proposed 40,000 ton ship is to have engines that will drive her through the water at 25 knots an hour. She is to be heavily armed and armored. The details of her plan, however, are not given out as yet. If this project is carried out, of course it will make all previous battle-ships of all the nations completely out of date. This war game is becoming more and more interesting, particularly to those who know the prophecies concerning the preparation of the nations in this time for the war of Armageddon of the great day of almighty God.

General Conference Opens Encouragingly

Brief reports from the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in session at Washington, D. C., show that the meeting opened most encouragingly with about 3,100 in attendance.

A Letter from London

We would call particular attention to our London letter found on pages 10 and 11 of this issue. Our London correspondent takes great pains in presenting to us from time to time a summing up of important conditions in the British Empire. What he has to say is worthy of more than ordinary perusal.
