A little colored boy in a Pennsylvania town sells fifty copies of the SIGNS every week. Yet there are many people feeling “so sorry” because there seems to be nothing that they can do. The Baptist minister at Helena, Mont., recently assumed the responsibility of forbidding one of our laborers to visit any of the homes of his people, and threatened personal violence if the order were disobeyed. A new house of worship has been erected at Missoula, Mont. Elder C. N. Martin conducted the first services December 20. Another new church edifice has been erected at Great Falls, Mont., where Elder W. J. Stone has been laboring. Missionaries from other denominations have come to our sanitariums for treatment, and when they have learned our principles, have told us that if they had known these things while in their fields, they need not have broken down as they did. Elder S. F. Swenson, formerly of Iowa, is now laboring in the interest of the Swedes in Brooklyn, N. Y. The efforts of Elder J. F. Hansen, who has recently gone to Europe, were more especially devoted to the Danes and Norwegians, although the Scandinavian interest is, in the main, a united charge. Elder O. A. Olsen, president of the General Conference, was with the church in this city on Sunday evening, December 29, that being the closing meeting of the week of prayer. He spoke briefly, but very earnestly, of our work and its pressing need of laborers and means wherewith to fill the many places that the providence of God is opening up before us. Twenty-four different periodicals are now issued regularly from our publishing houses, and books are published in as many different languages, as follows: Arabic, Bohemian, Chinese, Danish, English, Finnish, French, German, Holland, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Livonian, Maori, Polish, Portuguese, Roumanian, Russian, Servian, Prussian, Spanish, Swedish, Tahitian, and Welsh. At Petaluma, Cal., the services of prayer week were held in the new house of worship. This is the oldest church organization in the state, and one which has struggled along against much opposition and many obstacles, but it is at last independent of opposing influences as far as a meeting place is concerned. This attainment is a source of encouragement to the little company, and, we trust, of advantage to the cause of the Master. Mrs. M. L. Thompson, Marshall, Texas, would be glad to receive copies of the SIGNS OF THE TIMES and the American Sentinel for missionary work. We are assured they will be well used. Mrs. L. Haffner, Sausalito, Marin County, Cal., wishes clean copies of SIGNS OF THE TIMES, American Sentinel, etc., for missionary work. Please send them postpaid.
