That Is Good.—

Eight thousand subscribers have been added to our list since these special studies began. We are glad, and thank our loyal friends for their help. The work done is good; let the next two months double this increase.

A Noted Bible Collection.

The finest private collection of Bibles in the world has been held by the Earl of Carysfort, who recently died. It is thought that these may be placed upon the market for sale. One of these Bibles is a Gutenberg, or Mazarine Bible, a copy of the first printed Bible from movable metal type, A.D. 1450. It is valued at $20,000.

The Latest Union

Professional pall-bearers, who hang around undertaking parlors in Denver in hope of getting a job in case of some poor deceased without friends, have decided to form a union and demand fifty cents each per burial. What led to this decision was some new professionals coming in and serving for twenty-five cents each. A funeral conducted on the latter basis was interrupted by the cries of “Scab,” followed by fights. Pitifully disgraceful, isn’t it?

Kongo Libel Case.—

We noted in our issue of October 13 the prosecution of two American missionaries for libel; namely Doctors Morrison and Shepherd, by the Kasai Company, which practically rules the Kongo. The last news is that Dr. Shepherd was acquitted, and the suit against Dr. Morrison was dropped. The company did not prove that he had made false statements, nor could they prove that he had damaged them.

What Will Become of You?

You, reader, whoever you are, are a human, presumably a responsible human; responsible for your conduct, your influence; responsible to God.
Sometime, the great Book teaches us, will come a judgment-day, in which “every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” We may ignore the fact, we may endeavor to laugh off the inevitable, but come the day will.
What will that day be to us? Are we willing to meet it? Does the thought of it bring no terror to you?
You have friends, relatives, whom you love intensely, for whose temporal and spiritual interest you are anxious. What will the day mean to them?
There are many millions in the world who do not know Jesus the Christ, who do not care to know Him, whose lives are wholly selfish, seemingly. Many have died who have been monsters of cruelty and brutality all their lives. What will be their fate? Will justice, strict justice, be meted out to all?
This matter will be a subject of special study in our next week’s issue.

What Are the Wages of Sin? What Is the Ultimate of Sin and Death?

The Biblical study of this question will show the love and justice in the plan of God.
Abraham the patriarch once asked, “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” Our study of the subject will give an emphatic answer in the affirmative. Study it with us. Interest others in its study.

Life and Law

Life and Law.— It is one of the most reasonable things imaginable that when God gave life to His creatures, He gave it in harmony with, or subject to, the laws of their being. That is, the law of the being regulates the life. If the creature live in perfect harmony with the law of his being, his life will be perpetuated indefinitely. If he fail thus to do, he perverts that law, and the perversion of that law perverts the life, and therefore limits it. There are numerous illustrations of this in our every-day life. A machine which runs contrary to the law of its making soon goes to pieces. A perfectly adjusted machine that runs in perfect consonance with the rules which govern it, wears, even in this mortal life, almost indefinitely. If man had lived ever in harmony with the highest law of his being, the law of character, he would never have died. The sentence of wrath which God pronounced upon the race, came not because of any arbitrary act on the part of God; it was the consequence of man's transgression of the law which governs his life.

Life and Health for November

“Life and Health” for November contains many useful articles. All its departments are well filled with excellent material. “Parental Responsibility,” “Why Reforms in Eating Are Sometimes Disappointing,” are both articles of profit. There are the departments of General Articles, “Healthful Cookery,” “Current Comment,” on various things pertaining to health, a “Medical Forum,” in which things of practical interest are discussed, the “Medical Missionary at Work,” besides editorials and notes. The little journal has a large and worthy circulation. Price, 10 cents a copy, and $1.00 a year. Takoma Park Station, Washington, D. C.

New Issue of Liberty

“Liberty” for the last quarter of this year has just come to hand. It is an excellent number and ought to be placed in the hands of legislators and judges everywhere. Besides the good editorials which it contains there are some excellent contributions, among which are “Church and State in Modern Greece,” “Undermining the Principles of American Liberty,” “The Attitude of National Reformers Regarding the Government,” “Religious Liberty Principles of the Inquisition,” and others equally strong. The price of this quarterly is ten cents per copy. Published in Washington, D. C.
