HIS SECOND COMING

“The Most Serious Industrial Situation”

MR. LLOYD-GEORGE, England's noted statesman, predicts that immediately following this war there will be an artificial stimulus to trade which comes from the abnormal conditions; “but when that period is over we shall be face to face with one of the most serious industrial situations with which we have ever been confronted. We shall have exhausted an enormous amount of the capital of the world, and our purchasers at home and abroad will be crippled.”
And it might be further added, in harmony with the prophecy of Mr. Lloyd-George, that when that “serious industrial situation” arrives, we will also be face to face with some of the scenes of rioting, violence, and strife that the prophets have told us will characterize the last hours of earth's history.

The Bible in Every Church Service

The custom is growing of having some special thing to emphasize on a particular Sunday. This process has developed to the place where quite a large number of the Sundays of the year are already taken up. Among these we have recently had one for the purpose of emphasizing the importance of the Bible. It was called “Bible Sunday.” Why would it not be a good idea to emphasize the importance of Bible study all the time? What is a church service for if it is not to study the Bible? And is it not a sad commentary on these times, that we have to have a special Sunday set apart for emphasizing the very thing that every church service should emphasize? If the Bible is not the basis of a service, and if it is not emphasized in that service, the service is a failure; but the very fact that the Bible is not emphasized as it should be, is one reason why we have the state of morals that exist in the world at the present time. But mere theories about the Bible will not suffice. Lectures concerning its importance do not reach far enough. The Bible must be brought into the very soul life of the individual through a personal experience in order for it to accomplish its purpose, and this is an individual work.

No Peace Before Christ’s Coming

The bishop of London is reported recently to have said, “Even this war may lead possibly to peace of a thousand years.” Bishops and all others ought to make themselves sufficiently familiar with the Bible to know that the world is rapidly preparing itself for the great Armageddon; and not the peace of a thousand years, but an eternity, lies just beyond for those who are ready for it. How can it be possible that people who are teaching the Bible, and who claim to be studying its sacred pages, can get the idea from the divine Book that this world can ever have peace before the second coming of Christ? As long as we have wickedness, we will have strife and wars; and the increasing wickedness of this world will cause the turbulent conditions that make for war to become worse and worse as the days go by.
