THE POWER OF THE TRUTH IN THE DAILY LIFE

FAITH, HOPE, AND CHARITY

Are needed in carrying on God’s work in the earth, and by these three it will be carried to a grand completion: faith that this is God’s work, and the message, God’s message; hope that it may reach honest souls; charity (which is love) to God and man, whether prosperity crowns your efforts or adversity seems to frown upon you. “These three, but the greatest of these is love.” With these three filling your soul, you will not become lifted up by unheard-of success, nor will you grow weary and become discouraged, tho the work goes hard and the results appear small.
Who, with faith, hope, and love, will take hold with us in pushing the circulation of THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES this fall, that it may bring joy and peace to many more sad and troubled hearts in the year to come than the one nearing its departure into eternity?
“A harvest of joy” will be reaped by those who enter this work for God, in His own way. Who will share it with us and enter into the joy of his Lord?
H. G. THURSTON.

Teaching and Forbidding to Practise.

In some of the United States of America it is a penal offense for any one to teach white children and colored children in the same school, even in a private school. Yet the Bible is read in the public schools of that State, and the Bible says that God “hath made of one blood all nations of men” (Acts 17:26); also that among those who “have put off the old man . . . and have put on the new man, . . . there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free; but Christ is all, and in all.” And in some of the States where the Bible is read in the public schools, it is a penal offense to practically carry out the principles of the Sabbath commandment contained in the Bible. The people of some of the latter class of States would promptly condemn the action of the former class; but which is the more inconsistent? Read Rom. 2:1-3.
